Kathmandu [Nepal], September 12 – Seven more bodies have been recovered from the flood-damaged upper Trishuli-1 hydropower project in Rasuwa district, northern Nepal.
The bodies were found on Friday during a search for people missing inside tunnels and at the project’s headworks according to the Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN).
The 216-megawatt project has reported a large number of missing workers since the flood on August 26.
Rescuers said a team comprising the Nepali Army and survey engineers from Nepal Water and Energy Development Company, the project developer, inspected the Audit 1 area on Friday and found it completely filled with debris.
Six bodies had previously been recovered from the project on September 4.
Excavation has also begun at the Mailung camp site using a mini excavator while the Nepali Army and an Australian rescue team have been searching the Audit 3 area.
Korean rescuers, Sherpas, search teams and drone teams are also involved in the operation. Cameras and trained sniffer dogs are being used to locate those still missing.
Before the flood 1,433 people were working at the project site. Of them, 878 have so far been rescued while 551 remain unaccounted for according to IPPAN.
