Kathmandu [Nepal], September 11 – Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has said the government is preparing five special packages aimed at making the economy more vibrant and accelerating economic activity.
Addressing the 28th annual general meeting of the Society of Economic Journalists Nepal (SEJON), Wagle said work was being advanced under five packages covering different sectors.
Under the first package the government is carrying out recovery and rehabilitation efforts following the damage caused by the Bhotekoshi flood. He said studies had already been conducted to provide relief and support restoration for flood-affected industrialists, businesspeople and the general public.
Under the second package the government is preparing a 10 to 12 point policy reform plan within a week to address sluggish activity in the capital market, Wagle said.
He said preparations were also underway to announce a special package to promote and revive the private sector which would be implemented as the third package.
The fourth package focuses on removing Nepal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list, he said.
Under the fifth package the government is working to mobilize international financing for reconstruction following the Bhotekoshi flood. “We are also moving forward in bringing in international funds and managing them properly,” Wagle said.
Anjan Shrestha, president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry said the Bhotekoshi flood had caused unimaginable damage and urged the government to introduce a special package for affected industrialists, businesspeople and traders to help revive the private sector.
