Kathmandu [Nepal], October 8 – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has invited proposals from partner organisations to build transitional shelters for families displaced by the Bhotekoshi flood in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading.
In a public notice issued Wednesday, the Authority asked interested organisations to propose shelters meeting standards approved by the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction. Proposals must specify the number and locations of shelters concerned local governments, and construction timelines.
Organisations that have already agreed to build transitional shelters in the affected areas must also provide details of those agreements. Proposals must be submitted within seven days of the notice’s publication, NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Mahat said.
The call comes as the government shifts from emergency response toward recovery and rehabilitation. As of October 5, 1,085 displaced people were still staying in 17 holding centres across the three districts including 843 in Rasuwa and 121 each in Nuwakot and Dhading.
Earlier, 278 families from seven local government units had expressed interest in transitional shelters. Hundreds of other displaced families are also staying in Bidur while their long-term housing needs are assessed.
The government has identified 277 plots covering 3,279 ropanis in the three districts for possible resettlement. It plans integrated settlements with roads, drinking water, sanitation, electricity, schools, health facilities and communications for families unable to safely return home.
