In a social media post on Tuesday, Gurung said he had been closely monitoring a tendency among officials and employees working at the Home Ministry and its subordinate agencies to leak confidential or sensitive information to unauthorized individuals or bodies by abusing their official positions. He stressed that sensitive state information is not anyone’s private property but a public responsibility. According to Gurung holding an official position provides access to information but does not grant the right to misuse it. He said even minor information, intelligence or clues obtained through official duties could play a decisive role in preventing crimes, advancing investigations or establishing facts about serious incidents in the future. Gurung said anyone who deliberately betrays the country and the organization by violating state confidentiality will face legal action without exception.
