Nepal and India plan joint council to boost cross-border tourism

Kathmandu [Nepal], October 29 – Nepal and India are planning to establish a joint council to promote tourism, strengthen business ties and develop cross-border tourism between the two countries.

The decision was made during the Nepal–India Cross-Border Tourism Connect 2026 programme held from October 25 to 27 through the joint initiative of the Non-Resident Nepali Association International Coordination Council and the Prosperous Chitwan Campaign.

The proposed council will include tourism experts, travel and tour operators, hotel and resort managers, hospitality professionals and other stakeholders from both countries. Its objectives include joint destination promotion, business-to-business (B2B) meetings, developing tourism packages, exchanging experiences and organizing regular networking programmes.

Somanath Sapkota spokesperson for the association’s international coordination council and chairman of its Tourism Promotion Committee said the programme focused on connecting Nepal’s tourist destinations with the Indian market and creating long-term business partnerships.

He said the initiative would help promote Nepal as an attractive destination for Indian tourists while creating new opportunities for tourism entrepreneurs.

Participants also visited tourist destinations, hotels and resorts in Ramgram, Amaltari, Maulakalika, Sauraha, Meghauli, Chitwan and Nawalpur to explore the region’s religious, cultural and natural attractions.

The programme brought together tourism representatives from both countries, including Indian travel operators and Nepali hospitality businesses, to strengthen professional cooperation and promote tourism.
