Nepal, Russia discuss Nepali nationals in Russian Army


Kathmandu [Nepal], October 7 – Nepal and Russia discussed the cases of Nepali nationals serving in the Russian Army including those missing, detained in Ukraine as prisoners of war and compensation, during bilateral consultations in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

The issue was among the key matters discussed as the two countries reviewed their bilateral ties and exchanged views on regional and multilateral issues.

The consultations also covered education, human resource development, culture, tourism, climate change, trade and investment, according to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko co-chaired the talks.

The meeting coincided with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Russia. Both sides expressed appreciation for the longstanding friendship between the two countries and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in various areas.

Nepal and Russia also briefed each other on political and economic developments in their respective countries and discussed cooperation on climate change and within multilateral forums.

The bilateral consultations were established under a protocol signed by the two foreign ministries on September 5, 1995.
