The decision was taken during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly on Thursday according to Nepal’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York. The extension gives Nepal additional time to undertake necessary structural and institutional reforms before graduating from the LDC category. Nepal has expressed its commitment to using the extended period to strengthen its productive capacity, improve institutional performance and accelerate economic and social transformation. The additional time is expected to help the country address existing challenges and prepare more effectively for graduation. The UN decision is also expected to support Nepal’s efforts to achieve a smooth, sustainable and irreversible transition from the LDC category.
