Nepal’s new Police Chief receives rank insignia

Kathmandu [Nepal], November 4 – Nepal’s newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), Manoj Kumar KC received his rank insignia from Home Minister Sudhan Gurung at a ceremony held at the Home Ministry on Wednesday.

This marks the first time a home minister has personally conferred the insignia on a Nepal Police chief. Previously, the responsibility was traditionally carried out by the Home Secretary.

Senior officials from the Home Ministry and top police officers attended the ceremony.

The government appointed KC as the new police chief on Wednesday following an emergency Cabinet meeting that decided to remove Dan Bahadur Karki from the position.

The Cabinet also appointed Karki as the Prime Minister’s Security Adviser after removing him from the police leadership.

KC’s appointment marks a change in the leadership of Nepal Police with the government citing the need to strengthen the country’s security arrangements as the reason for the reshuffle.
