KATHMANDU – The House of Representatives (HoR) has defeated the National Assembly (NA) 4-0 in a friendly futsal match organised here today on the occasion of the 17th Parliament Service Day. The 20-minute match was organised at the futsal court at Bhrikutimandap.
For the HoR, lawmaker Madhav Sapkota scored two goals and Biraj Bhakta Shrestha and Bishwo Prakash Sharma one each. The HoR futsal team was led by Speaker Devraj Ghimire, and the NA team by NA chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina.
The HoR squad included Ghimire, Deputy Speaker Indira Rana, and lawmakers Sapkota, Shrestha, Sharma, Manish Jha, Pradip Yadav and Taraman Lama while the NA team comprised of Timilsina, Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi, Gopi Achhami, Maya Prasad Sharma, Dr Khimlal Devkota and Bhairab Sundar Shrestha.
On the occasion, Speaker Ghimire said the Day has been marked by playing a friendly futsal match. “It has been some times since fustal has been introduced here in Nepal. We have participated in the match to promote and encourage youths to the sport as futsal can be played in a small area,” he said.
Stating that politics and futsal are regarded as the same kind, he said futsal is played physically and politics ideologically. Saying sports is an important stream for the holistic development of the country, NA Chair Timilsina said sports help maintain discipline and unity.
“We have come out to play the match to encourage the youth towards sports. We must advance to promote sports.”
Deputy Speaker Rana stressed the need for parliamentarians to involve in sports like futsal sometimes for a peace of mind, escaping from their business in the parliamentary affairs. The tournament has been participated by the total 22 futsal teams, including five women teams.
