KATHMANDU – The election to three posts remaining vacant from the Sudurpaschim province is scheduled to be held on January 25 under the National Assembly election, 2080.
According to the Office of Returning Officer, Kailali, the election is taking place for three posts, one each for women, disabled and minorities and other cluster (open), whose terms are about to end as NA member.
As informe, CPN (UML)’s Indu Kadariya (Kanchanpur) elected from women’s quota, CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Mahesh Kumar Mahara (Dadeldhura) elected from disabled and minorities and Hariram Chaudhary (Kailali) of the same party elected from other quotas are retiring in February.
According to the National Assembly Election Act, the election collage comprising province assembly members, chiefs (mayor/chairperson) and deputy chiefs (deputy mayor/vice-chairperson) of local municipalities, can vote in the election to be held for the National Assembly members.
The Sudurspaschim province assembly has a total of 53 members. PA member Prithvi Bahadur Singh, elected on behalf of the Nepali Congress from Bajhang, died in a accident some months ago. So, now there are 52 PA members in the province.
There are 88 local government units in nine districts of the province. It has a total 228 votes.
According to the legal provision, the national assembly members have to be elected 35 days before they are vacated.
