KATHMANDU – Award-winning Producer Ravi Baral will be soon producing a new film with a social theme.
According to Producer Baral, the film will highlight issues related to gender-based violence. As studies show, in Nepal, one in five women and girls experience physical violence from an early age and at least one in four married women experience spousal physical, sexual, or emotional violence. The most common type of spousal violence is physical violence, followed by emotional violence.
The film, which will be entitled Far Too Young, will tell the story of a young girl whose dreams of education are cut short by early marriage and the inescapable circumstances that follow in her married life. Child marriage is also internationally recognized in law as a form of gender-based violence.
Marrying girls at an early age deprives them of education and puts girls at increased risk of sexual, physical, and psychological violence and related outcomes throughout their lives. Far Too Young, the film that Ravi Baral will produce will be filmed in Nepal, South Asia, and the United States in the near future. It will be produced and partnered with a United States enterprise and will have both Nepalese and American cast and film technicians. Avinash Sharma an American national and the Founder of Far Too Young, Inc.
based in Atlanta, will co-produce this film. According to Producer Baral, the pre-production of the film is complete. Once completed, the film will be released commercially internationally and will be also used extensively in communities and classrooms to educate on gender-based violence and its prevention.
