KATHMANDU – A meeting of the CPN (UML) Secretariat today decided to deposit Rs 5 million in the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund. A meeting of the Council of Ministers on Monday had also decided to preliminarily deposit one billion rupees in the Fund.
The UML Parliamentary Party meeting is underway in Singha Durbar mow, immediately after the conclusion of the Secretariat Meeting. In the meeting, Prime Minister and party chairman KP Sharma Oli called on one and all to involve in rescue and relief works amidst a serious natural disaster situation in the nation.
The parliamentary party has passed the proposal put forth by the Prime Minister urging the lawmakers from the party to contribute their 15 days’ salary in the relief fund.
PM Oli said the progress so far in connection with rescue and relief in the aftermath of the flooding, landslide, and the damage caused due to the disaster would be shared in the news conference to be convened this afternoon.
Stating that they are all saddened as the nation is in distress due to the flooding, landslide and disaster, he expressed condolences to those who lost their lives and wished for the quick recovery of health to those injured in the disaster. The PM asserted that the government will provide appropriate medical treatment to the injured.
“Along with rescue and relief works, the government has temporarily opened the road on highways that have been obstructed. In the beginning, there were complaints that the rescue and relief works were not adequate. We do not counter react to any complaints. The distress that has befallen on the people is our distress. We are the servants of the people. I call upon all to work with service motive,” he said, adding that the amount collected in the relief fund would be utilized properly.
