KATHMANDU – Nepal has suffered a defeat to the United States in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 Series.
In the match played at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas of the US, Nepal lost to the host US by three wickets.
The US completed the run target of 287 runs presented by Nepal in 49.4 overs at the loss of seven wickets.
Shayan Jahangir made the highest contribution of 104 runs to steer the US to win. He scored the runs with 12 fours and four sixes off 97 throws.
Likewise, captain Monank Patel gathered 62 runs with five fours facing 76 balls. Harmeet Singh scored 57 runs in 44 balls with six fours and two sixes. Shadley Van Schalkwyk scored 27, Jasdeep Singh and Saiteza Mukamalla scored 11 runs each and Milind Kumar scored five runs.
Nepali bowler Kushal Bhurtel took four wickets while Sompal Kami and Lalit Rajbanshi took two wickets each.
Earlier, Nepal scored 286 runs for the loss of all wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Nepal captain Rohit Poudel scored 96 runs in 75 balls with 8 fours and three sixes.
Opener Asif Sheikh scored 52 runs off 53 balls with 7 fours and a six while Anil Sah scored 56 runs off 62 balls with five fours. Similarly, Arif Sheikh scored (37), Kushal Bhurtel (11), Dipendra Singh Airee (13), Gulshan Jha (1) and Sompal Kami (2) runs.
Nosthusha Kenjige took four wickets for the US while Harmeet Singh, Shadley Van Schalkwyk and Jasdeep Singh took one wicket each. Invited to bat first after losing the toss earlier, Nepal had gathered a total of 286 runs in the limited 50 0vers at the loss of all wickets.
Nepal will now take on Scotland on Tuesday. Nepal is in the seventh place with three points from nine matches with seven defeats, one win and one pointless in the League 2. The US is in second place with 14 points from 10 matches with seven wins. Canada is at the top with 16 points from 12 matches.
