Kathmandu [Nepal], September 18 – The Nepali Army has continued search and rescue operations in areas affected by the Bhotekoshi flood rescuing more than 4,000 people by air.
According to the Army 4,191 people had been evacuated from affected areas by air as of Wednesday. Of them 3,908 were Nepali citizens and 283 were foreign nationals.
Joint teams, including project representatives are continuing searches inside the tunnel of the Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower project. The Army said human remains and bodies found inside the tunnel are also being recovered.
Search operations are continuing at the Trishuli-3A tunnel and powerhouse areas. At Trishuli-3B a joint team used three excavators and a loader to excavate the powerhouse area although nothing was found.
Ground searches are also underway in affected areas of Rasuwa and Nuwakot including Koloni, Tupche, Dansing, Samari Bhanjyang, Kalikasthan and Manchet.
More than 8,700 army personnel are deployed across affected areas from Timure in Rasuwa to Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan and Nawalparasi East. They are involved in rescue operations, body recovery, relief delivery, emergency medical care and restoring roads and bridges.
The Army said 28 people received treatment at emergency medical centres and medical patrols in Trishuli and Dhunche on Thursday bringing the total number served to 3,966.
