Kathmandu [Nepal], September 18 – South Korea has pledged continued support for search, rescue and rehabilitation efforts in areas affected by the Bhotekoshi flash flood.
Korean Ambassador Jae-kyung Park made the commitment during a courtesy call on Minister for Information and Communication Dr Bikram Timilsina at his office in Singha Durbar on Thursday.
The meeting covered Nepal-Korea relations, search and rescue operations, rehabilitation of flood victims and humanitarian assistance provided by South Korea. The two sides also discussed expanding cooperation in information technology, the digital economy and artificial intelligence.
Minister Timilsina expressed gratitude for Korea’s assistance and sympathy following the flash flood particularly for deploying a rescue team to search for missing people. He also thanked Korea for its commitment to provide additional humanitarian assistance and support reconstruction and rehabilitation.
Ambassador Park said Korea would continue supporting rescue and rehabilitation efforts in the affected areas. He also inquired about Korean nationals missing in the disaster.
According to the ambassador, Korean security personnel have rescued 10 Korean citizens while nine others remain out of contact.
Park also informed Timilsina about Nepal’s participation in the 12th Global ICT Leadership Forum scheduled to begin in South Korea on September 30. The forum will discuss international cooperation and future strategies in information technology and artificial intelligence.
