Kathmandu [Nepal], Oct 30 – Nepal is likely to see heavy rain and snowfall across several provinces over the next two days as the effects of Cyclone Arnab in the Bay of Bengal combine with western winds, the Department of Meteorology has warned.
The department has forecast moderate rainfall and snowfall with thunderstorms in most parts of the country with some areas likely to experience heavy to very heavy precipitation.
Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces are among the areas at risk of heavy rainfall while some hilly and mountainous areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces could also receive heavy rain and snowfall.
The department has also warned of strong winds in some parts of the Terai particularly across Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.
The adverse weather is expected to increase the risk of landslides particularly in vulnerable areas and along roads while colder temperatures and disruptions to road and air travel could affect daily life.
Authorities have advised people to avoid agricultural activities including rice harvesting, today and tomorrow because of the expected rainfall.
Tourists have also been urged not to travel to high-altitude areas due to the risk of heavy snowfall, snowstorms and landslides. Those already in mountainous regions have been asked to remain in safe locations until weather conditions improve.
The department said most parts of the country are expected to remain cloudy tonight with moderate rain and snowfall likely in several areas.
