Nepal expects 1,700 MW peak power demand during Laxmi puja

Kathmandu [Nepal], November 7 – Nepal is expected to record a peak electricity demand of around 1,700 megawatts on the day of Laxmi Puja with the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) assuring consumers of an uninterrupted power supply during the festival.

NEA Executive Director Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha said domestic electricity generation would be sufficient to meet the projected demand.

Power generation is expected to reach around 2,500 megawatts during the period exceeding domestic consumption and ensuring adequate supply, he said.

The NEA has made special arrangements to maintain reliable, regular and quality electricity distribution during the Tihar and Chhath festivals.

Shrestha said chiefs of all concerned offices had been directed to make necessary preparations to prevent disruptions during the festive period.

The authority has also instructed office chiefs to ensure that telephone calls received through its no-light service are answered regularly to address consumer complaints about power supply.
