New Delhi: India’s coronavirus cases have risen up to 4,208,645surpassing Brasil’s 4,137,606 to become the country with the second-highest confirmed coronavirus cases after the United States, which has 6,460,421 cases.
India’s death toll of 71,711 is the third highest in the world only behind the US (193,253) and Brazil (126,686).
For the last seven days, India’s coronavirus cases have surged more than 75,000 daily. More than 60% of the active cases came from five states- Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
A reason why there has been such an exponential increase in the coronavirus cases in India is the government’s decision to lift the lockdown after the country’s economy was disrupted and because it was severely affecting the country’s poor.
