2 killed in blast targeting lawmaker’s vehicle in Kabul

KABUL – At least two people were killed and two others, including the brother of a national parliament member, were wounded in a bomb attack hitting the vehicle of a lawmaker in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan on Sunday, the capital police confirmed.

The incident happened at about 7:50 a.m. local time after a sticky bomb attached to a Land Cruiser-type vehicle was detonated near Hotel-e-Parwan locality, Khair Khana Mina area, Police District 15, north of the capital. “Two people were killed and two others wounded in the blast,” Kabul police spokesman Ferdaws Faramarz told Xinhua.

The blast sent a column of thick smoke into the sky and triggered panic. A security source said the vehicle belonging to MP Mohammad Tawfiq Wahdat caught fire following the explosion. He said the brother of Wahdat and one other person were wounded but the lawmaker was not in the vehicle which was driving along the lane near a mosque when the attack happened.

No group has claimed responsibility so far. Over the past years, the capital city with a population of nearly 5 million has been hit by series of terror attacks by the Taliban insurgents and militants of the Islamic State (IS) opposing the government.

On Saturday, one civilian was killed and four others wounded after 10 rockets fired from an abandoned station-wagon vehicle parked in Khair Khana Mina towards Kabul international airport. One airplane was reportedly damaged by the rocket attacks. Enditem-Xinhua
