PCR test for coronavirus now cheaper by Rs 1,100

Health Ministry decides to reduce the PCR test cost to Rs 4,400, citing cheaper price of kits in the market

KATHMANDU-  The government has lowered the price of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test used to detect COVID-19.

Dr. Jageswor Gautam, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, said that the Ministry has decided to lower the PCR test price by Rs 1,100.

The decision to reduce the price was made as PCR test kits in the market have become cheaper in recent days, he said.

Dr. Sameer Adhikari, Deputy Spokesperson at the Ministry, stated that people will now be able to undergo coronavirus testing at Rs 4,400. Earlier, it cost Rs 5,500.

The government has already allowed some private hospitals to carry out PCR tests for coronavirus. Following the Ministry’s decision, these private hospitals will now need to provide PCR tests at the reduced rate.
