Nepali peace expert Rajendra to receive international peace award


KATHMANDU : Nepali peace expert Rajendra Century is to be felicitated from the special international award ‘Books for Peace 2020’ in recognition of his contribution to peace-building efforts.

The award was announced at the academic hall of Santa Cecilia Conservatory in the Rome City of Italy on September 12. The ceremony was organized with the assistance of different organizations operating in 61 countries.

Due to travel restrictions imposed against the global pandemic of coronavirus, Century could not be physically present at the ceremony to receive the letter of appreciation. He has dedicated his life in keeping peace and good will at home and abroad.

Century has been sharing his profound knowledge and experiences on peace building in most of the countries of South Asia and Europe. He was evaluated for the award based on his specializations in the areas such as inter-religious harmony, civic protest and non-violence, lethal terrorism prevention and control, human rights, post-conflict justice and mainstreaming of youth and marginalized communities for sustainable peace-building.

Century has dozens of newspaper articles to his credit as an independent contributor to the issues of peace and justice. The Australian Institute for Economics and Peace had also nominated him as an IEPS ambassador at the onset of the year 2020.

The award is presented to an individual having substantial contributions in the areas of art, culture, peace and social sector. Among the recipients of the award so far are Chief Reporter of America Diversity Report Debora Levin, Iranian-Armenian music practitioner Loris Technowarian, journalist and director of RAI-3 Franco De Mare, former footballer Damiyano Tomasi, actor cum director Febrijio Borni and Wikipedia chair Matte Rafoni, among others.
As many as 21 prestigious institutions including governments, universities, non-profit organizations, European Union and UNESCO have recognized the award.
