KATHMANDU – Bajhang district witnessed two earthquakes today alone- one measuring 5.3 Richter scale at 11:45am and another measuring 4.3 Richter scale at 12:32pm. Both have the epicenters in Bajhang.
With these, the district has experienced 15 tremors in four days. Last Tuesday, an earthquake measuring 6.3 Richter scale jolted the district, according to the Earthquake Monitoring and Researcher Centre.
Senior seismologist Bijay Prasad Koirala informed that western belt of Nepal had stored huge force causing vulnerability to earthquake. The earthquakes recorded today are aftershocks.
“There is no major earthquake since 1505 in the western belt of Nepal. So, it has stored tremendous force within. The release of the power created with strike of two plates is earthquake,” he said, adding that such aftershocks would be felt for some more days.
He further warned of huge earthquake at any time in future. However, the minor tremors could lessen such chances.
