Kathmandu: In recent days, Prime Minister K.P Sharma Oli’s Facebook profile picture’s comment section has been grabbing the headlines. People have come together to raise their voices and demand better justice for Nirmala Panta, the victim of a gruesome rape case that took place in July 2018.
People have been using the hashtag #JusticeForNirmala along with a photo of her to raise their voices in the comment sections of various politicians and big media houses, demanding that the perpetrators be found and duly punished.
Thousands of comments have appeared under the photos of Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Pushpa Kamal Dahal (‘Prachanda’), the Nepal Police’s official page, Online Khabar and EKantipur, among others, to demand justice for Panta.
The then 13-year-old Nirmala Panta had gone missing on July 26, 2018. She was then found naked and lifeless on July 27, 2018 in a sugarcane field in Bhimdutta Municipality of Kanchanpur District.
A 9th grade student, Panta had gone to her friend’s place to complete her homework on July 26, 2018 and never returned home.
It has been more than 750 days since her death, and the perpetrator is still at large.
