He tendered his resignation to the Bagmati Province Chief Yadav Chandra Sharma. Thapaliya who was appointed to the post by the CPN (UML)-led government resigned after the appointment of new Chief Minister in the province. He resigned following the resignation from Chief Minister by UML parliamentary leader Astalaxmi Shakya recently.
