Govt committed to introduce more relief programmes: Minister Khand


KATHMANDU – Minister for Home Affairs Bal Krishna Khand has said that the government was working towards providing additional relief support to the disaster survivors.

Inspecting the flood and landslide-hit areas in Dhankuta, Paanchthar and Ilam districts today, Minister Khand shared that monitoring were being conducted to provide more relief to the survivors.

Khand, who is also Acting Prime Minister, said that the government had already decided to provide Rs 200,000 to each household affected by landslide and flood. The compensation amount would be added by Rs 100,000 to the family who have lost members to the disaster.

Amid this, according to Khand, the government was mulling how to provide additional relief to the affected ones and pledged to introduce special relief programme for the farmers whose crops were damaged by the recent series of landslide and flood. Minister Khand was accompanied by the vice-chairperson of the National Planning Commission and representatives from the Department of Road among others.

Extending gratitude towards those involved in rescue and relief operation in the wake of unseasonal rain-triggered flood and landslide, he urged all concerned to continue with the relief and rescue operation since some people were still missing in the incidents.
He said that the government’s attention was drawn towards damages done by the disasters on the electricity, drinking water and irrigation sectors.
