Maoist Centre forms sub-committees to facilitate National Conference


KATHMANDU – CPN (Maoist Centre) has formed several sub-committees in view of its upcoming National Conference. According to party Spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the party’s Standing Committee meeting held today at the party headquarters Parisdanda formed the management, dissemination, volunteers and health sub-committees to facilitate the organisation of the national gathering.

The management sub-committee is coordinated by leader Hitman Shakya while Spokesperson Mahara has been given the role as head of the dissemination committee. The party has scheduled to hold its national gathering on coming December 26-28 in Kathmandu. An inaugural session of the Conference will be held at the Nepal Academy, Kamaladi in Kathmandu.

Mahara said, “This is the national conference, not the general convention. There will be no mass meeting on the sideline of the gathering which is expected to determine the party’s future course of action.” The meeting has handed the responsibility of preparing a proposal for the nomination of the representatives of the national conference to party Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal, deciding to pick 30 members from each provinces and others on the basis of party membership.

As Mahara briefed, it has been agreed to ensure the representations from among those who were injured or suffered disability during the people’s war as well. At least one participation is to be guaranteed from each province. The participation fee is Rs 2,000 each.

Further explaining about the meeting decision, he said the need to revise some issues of the party’s statute has been realized and a five-member sub-committee has been constituted for the same. The panel comprises standing committee members Dev Gurung, Pampha Bhusal, Leelamani Pokhrel, Janardan Sharma and Matrika Yadadv.

The subcommittee is expected to finalise the statute revision issues by coming December 11. More, the meeting decided to unveil the party audit report. The ward-level convention has been almost over while the municipal-level convention is on the process of getting over. Some place reports technical issues, but it will be concluded at all levels by December 11,” he said.

The party Spokesperson went on to say that party would do its role to make the upcoming Parliament Session a success. “The party will actively take part in the session.” President Bidya Devi Bhandari has, on the recommendation of the government, summoned the sessions of both houses in the Federal Parliament for December 14.

In his response to journalists’ query about the role of the party in regard with the US aid proposal Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), he said the discussions on the issue were awaited.
