Baniya received 1,085 votes from the election held on Sunday. Baniya’s rival Jagdishwor Narsingh KC got 927 votes, according to Election Officer Keshav Kafle. The election committee said that 13 votes were declared invalid. For the election of the province committee president, re-election was held on Sunday as no candidate bagged at least 50 per cent of the total votes. In the first phase, Baniya and KC had got 992 votes and 877 votes, respectively. Prior to the election on Sunday, the third candidate of the president, Bhimsen Das Pradhan, had announced his backing to leader Baniya.
