He defeated his nearest rival CPN (UML)’s Ek Bahadur Rana by a margin of 5,388 votes. He got 25,318 votes while Rana 19,925. Out of the total 66,584 votes cast in the constituency, 4,000 were invalid, according to the office of the chief returning officer.
