Oli’s move is undemocratic, but no protest on case that is subjudice: Deuba

Criticizing PM Oli’s decision to dissolve the House, Deuba says the main opposition party cannot take to street on case that is under judicial review

KATHMANDU – Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has called the decision of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s to dissolve the House of Representatives an unconstitutional move.

Addressing a webinar organized to mark the National Unity and Reconciliation Day, Nepali Congress President Deuba said that Prime Minister Oli’s decision to dissolve the House was undemocratic.

“By dissolving the House suddenly, Oli has made an unconstitutional move. This is also undemocratic,” said Nepali Congress President Deuba.

He, however, said that Nepali Congress can launch the street protest as the matter is subjudice. The court cannot be intimidated to issue a favorable ruling, he said.

“The court cannot be threatened through protest. We have to wait for the court’s verdict,” he said. He also said that Nepali Congress and people cannot accept one-party rule.

“We have to protect judicial independence. We must accept the verdict of an independent judiciary. We want to put this clearly to the people,” he added.
