Nepal Banda: Prachanda joins sit-in at Pulchowk to protest against govt

Joint People’s Movement will begin from Falgun, warns Prachanda while comparing pro-government rallies with those held in support of Panchayat

KATHMANDU – Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has joined the sit-in at Pulchowk.

NCP Chairman Prachanda sat on the street along with other leaders and cadres as the agitating party is enforcing nationwide strike today to protest the government’s ‘unconstitutional’ appointments in various constitutional bodies.

Various groups of agitating cadres have been staging demonstrations in Kathmandu Valley to enforce the shutdown.

NCP Chairman Prachanda participated in the sit-in at Pulchowk along with other leaders and cadres who are putting beaten rice, a bottle of water and Dalmoth in front of them.

Before joining the sit-in at Pulchowk, NCP Chairman Prachanda participated in a demonstration in Satdobato. Addressing the demonstration in Satdobato, he said that the joint people’s movement will begin from Falgun first week (mid February) against KP Sharma Oli-led government.

He also said that they would launch the joint peoples movement with other political parties from Falgun first week.

“We are holding discussions with Nepali Congress, Janata Samajwadi Party and other political parties to launch the joint people’s movement. The joint people’s movement that will possibly start from Fagun first week will sweep away all anti democratic and pro autocratic forces,” said Prachanda, addressing the demonstration.

“We understand the people’s sentiment that it should not have happened and we respect that. But, there is compulsion sometimes. This protest is for the protection of the constitution,” said Prachanda.

He also came down heavily against the rallies organized by government supporters. Comparing such rallies with those held during Panchayat, he called such rallies government-sponsored rallies.
Supporters of Prime Minister Oli have held rallies on Wednesday to demonstrate the strength of support toward the Oli-led government. NCP led by Prime Minister Oli is holding a mass gathering on Friday.

“Panchayat also used to hold similar rallies in 2046 by bringing people by paying them. They are aso holding similar rallies. They are staging a Pancha rally while we are launching the people’s movement,” he added.
