In a landmark ruling issued by the Constitutional Bench that dealt a blow to the government led by KP Sharma Oli, the Constitutional Bench under the apex court today overturned the government decision to dissolve the House of Representatives. The five-member Constitutional Member led by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana issued its verdict that will now pave the pay for the restoration of the House. Sapana Pradhan Malla, Biswombhar Prasad Shrestha, Anil Kumar Sinha and Tej Bahadur KC are other members of the Constitutional Bench that issued the verdict. Earlier on December 20 last year, the government had decided to dissolve the House and set dates for mid-term elections. The government decision was not only challenged in the Supreme Court but also left the ruling NCP on the verge of a split. The rival faction of the NCP has taken to the street against the government’s move.
