KATHMANDU – Chairperson of the Commission on Resolving Problem of Landlessness, Devi Prasad Gyawali, has said all landless people would be provided land before coming Dashain.
He added the Commission has been working actively by establishing its committees and offices in all 77 districts. Even the performance contracts were made with 504 out of 753 local levels, he said, adding coordination and collaboration was made with the local levels for the identification, verification and authentication of the landless people.
Chairman Gyawali added that all three tiers government were given authority to solve the problems of people deprived of land. “Data collection has been made more systematic and reliable as the data collected earlier was not trustworthy,” he argued.
So far, the data on 1.3 million households have been collected to provide land. “Although we had expected the number of landless households around 1.5 million, it is likely to increase to 2.2 million,” Gyawali informed. According to him, the problems of landlessness were severe in Tarai and inner Madhes.
