Province Chief Sita Kumari Poudel appointed Pokhrel as the CM in accordance with Article 168 (5) of the constitution today. Province Chief Poudel, on Friday, had called the Province Assembly members to stake a claim for CM slating the deadline of 3:00 pm today. Pokhrel was proposed as CM with the support of 15 Province Assembly members of Nepali Congress, 11 of Maoist Centre, 2 each of Rastriya Janamorcha and Janata Samajbadi Party and one independent, Rajib Gurung. The constitution has the provision that CM Pokhrel needs to win the vote of confidence within 30 days. Pokhrel, 71, and originally from Tanahu district had been elected as Province Assembly member from Nawalparasi East constituency no 1 (a).
