Issuing a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also joined the international community to voice its concern over today’s military coup in Myanmar. “Nepal has been closely following the recent developments in Myanmar. We believe that all parties involved will respect the will of the Myanmar people and hope that the democratic and constitutional process will be restored soon,” read the statement. “We are equally concerned about the safety and wellbeing of the detained civilian leaders including President U Win Myint and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and call for their immediate release,” it added. The United Nations along with governments of the US as well as other countries have been condemning the military coup in Burma. Earlier on Monday morning, the military leadership of Myanmar detained key leaders of the country including Nobel peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi and seized the power just hours before the opening session of Myanmar’s new Parliament.
