Kathmandu [Nepal], August 17 – Nepali Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel and Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth held talks at the Nepali Army Headquarters in Kathmandu on Monday focusing on mutual interests and bilateral military relations.
The Nepali Army Headquarters said the two army chiefs discussed matters of mutual interest and ways to strengthen their longstanding relationship.
General Seth arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday at the invitation of General Sigdel for an official visit. Following his arrival, Seth laid a wreath at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel before receiving a guard of honour at the Nepali Army Headquarters.
The Indian Army chief is also scheduled to receive the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army from President Ramchandra Paudel at a special ceremony.
The honorary rank is part of a longstanding tradition between the armies of Nepal and India, under which the chiefs of the two armies are conferred honorary general ranks in each other’s military.
Seth’s visit comes as Nepal and India continue to maintain close institutional and military ties, including cooperation and exchanges between their armed forces.
The four-day visit is expected to further strengthen military-to-military relations between the neighbouring countries with discussions centred on shared interests and their longstanding defence partnership.
