Kathmandu [Nepal], August 18 – A six-member Chinese delegation led by Jiang Jianguo, member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday for an official visit to Nepal.
Jiang, who is also deputy director of the CPPCC’s Committee on Ethnic and Religious Affairs and executive vice chairman of the China Society for Human Rights Studies arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport at 12:51 pm.
The delegation travelled to Kathmandu from Lhasa on a Himalaya Airlines flight.
During their visit the Chinese delegation is expected to meet with senior Nepali political leaders and government officials according to officials familiar with the visit.
The meetings are expected to provide an opportunity for discussions between the two sides on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest.
Jiang’s visit comes as Nepal continues to maintain close political and diplomatic engagement with China. The visit also highlights Beijing’s continued interaction with Nepal’s political and government institutions.
Further details about the delegation’s schedule and the officials it will meet have not yet been released.
The six-member delegation is expected to remain in Nepal for the duration of its scheduled engagements before returning to China.
