CJP founder’s whereabouts unknown after Delhi police detention

Kathmandu [Nepal], October 17 – The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has accused Delhi Police of taking its founder, Abhijeet Dipke to an undisclosed location after detaining him ahead of a protest in the Indian capital.

CJP leader Ajinkya Shinde said early Saturday that more than 10 hours after Dipke was detained his family, lawyers and party members had not been informed of his whereabouts.

According to police sources quoted by the Press Trust of India, Dipke was detained in Jhandewalan while travelling to Connaught Place for the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest.

The party said it had lost contact with Dipke and alleged that he was not being allowed to speak with his lawyers. It also wrote to the station house officer of Mandir Marg police station seeking details of his location, the legal provisions invoked and the grounds for his preventive detention.

The incident came amid concerns over the detention of All India Students’ Association president Neha Bora, whose lawyers reportedly traced her to RK Puram police station around midnight.

Police said around 150 people had been detained to maintain law and order and ensure smooth traffic movement. Security personnel including Rapid Action Force members were deployed around Central Park in Connaught Place.

CPI(ML) Liberation and CPI(M) MP John Brittas demanded the release of detained protesters and called on police to disclose their whereabouts and explain the grounds for their detention.

The allegations concerning Dipke’s whereabouts had not been independently confirmed in the information available.
