Petrol price hiked by Rs 2 per liter

After the third price hike in one and a half months, petrol will now cost Rs 107 per liter

KATHMANDU: Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has increased the price of petrol. According to the NOC, petrol will now cost Rs 107 per liter in the Kathmandu Valley, up by Rs 2. The new price comes into effect from today.

Earlier, petrol was available at Rs 105 per liter. Issuing a statement, NOC— the state’s oil monopoly— said that the decision to raise the price of petrol was in line with the revision in the purchasing price from Indian Oil Corporation on September 1.

However, the NOC has not changed the price of diesel, kerosene, aviation turbine fuel and LP Gas.

This is the third time the NOC has hiked up the petrol price in one and a half months. Earlier on August 16, the NOC had increased the price of diesel, petrol and kerosene each by one rupee per liter. Petrol was available at Rs 101 per liter until August 2 when the NOC increased the price by Rs 3 to Rs 104 per liter.

Even after the price hike, petroleum products are cheaper in Nepal than compared to India. India is the sole supplier of petroleum products to Nepal. According to the NOC, petrol is still cheaper by Rs 32.26 and diesel by Rs 36.75 in Birgunj, a city bordering India.
