KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Municipal Forum has demanded for the implementation of an odd-even system in transportation following an easement on the prohibitory order. A meeting of the forum held in Kathmandu today has suggested local administration to enforce vehicles other than public transport.
Secretary of the forum and Chief of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality Madan Sundar Shrestha stated that security vigilance and implementation of health standards should be tightened while easing the ban. According to him, the government has been suggested to tighten the traffic at the entrances and exits of Kathmandu.
He also informed that the forum concluded that the Nepal Army should be given security responsibility at checkpoints, while the Nepal Police should be involved in peace, security and crime control. A similar forum has also decided to operate services from the ward office of the Upatyaka from Thursday.
Shrestha informed that a five-member task force has been formed under the coordination of Kageshwari Manohara Municipality Chief Krishna Hari Thapa to suggest the government amend the Local Government Operation Act.
The forum has also demanded an immediate postponement of the work and a quick release of salary allowance to the teachers who have not received their allowance. The meeting was chaired by Chiribabu Maharjan, Vice-Chairman of the Upatyaka Municipal Forum.
Separate discussion of Kathmandu CDO
With one day remaining of lockdown in the Kathmandu Valley, the local administration has begun discussions to make necessary decisions for the coming days. It is said that appropriate decisions will be taken on the current prohibitory order based on discussions held with government bodies, people’s representatives, and private sector representatives today.
Kathmandu’s Chief District Officer Janak Raj Dahal has reviewed the situation so far after the ban was issued and informed that discussions have been held with representatives of various sectors since this morning to strategize for the coming days. Discussions have also taken place among the chief district officers of the three districts, Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur, including the chiefs and representatives of the Upatyaka municipalities.
Dahal stated that a meeting of the Covid-19 Crisis Management Committee was held in the district, and suggestions were also sought from the industry and commerce sector representatives.
Dahal also said that the Home Ministry has been consulted in the evening. “Suggestions have come from different angles. A decision can be reached by consolidating them,” Dahal said. “The focus has been on facilitation.”
The prohibitory ban which was imposed in the Kathmandu Valley on August 20 expires tomorrow, Wednesday, at 11:59 pm.
