Kathmandu: The government is set to bring a new law to provide relief to the culprits and victims of acid attacks. This new law will come through an ordinance with the provision of strict action against the culprits involved in the acid attack, with the provision of proper relief to the victims.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that this law will be enacted immediately through an ordinance to take action against the perpetrators of inhuman and heinous crimes as per demand of the acid victims. The PM has also instructed the Law Minister and other concerned bodies to complete the draft law within 15 days.
He said that the property of the offender will be confiscated and that the victim will be immediately taken to the hospital to be treated and will be compensated financially. In a special program attended by 12 victims of acid attacks across the country, PM Oli announced that arrangements for the treatment would be made at Bir Hospital and Teaching Hospital, and that the entire cost of the victims, including the regular use of medicines, will be borne by the government.
He said that the government would provide free education to those who want to complete their education. He also informed that the government would make arrangements for proper training, employment, business and livelihood for the victims. The government would encourage them to do business by giving them soft loans. Similarly, he also called on everyone to move forward to celebrate September 10 as the day of awareness against acid attacks every year.
To build a civilized society, the government will work to prevent future incidents of acid attacks and create an environment where no one will have to suffer, PM Oli assured the participants and asked them to not lose hope.
It is said that there have been 19 acid attack victims in 17 different incidents throughout Nepal.
