Market monitoring gains pace amidst approaching festivals


KATHMANDU –  In the wake of approaching festivals that sees thriving markets, the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DFTQC) has intensified market monitoring to check whether the goods transacted are ensured quality and sold in fair price.

Three monitoring teams have been mobilized by the Department in line with the Food Purity and Quality Act, 2081.
The inspection team on Monday monitored Gautam Sweets at New Road, Swastik Sweets and Snacks at Indrachwok, and Corner Fresh Gundpak at New Road, according to spokesperson at Department, Mohan Krishna Maharjan.

The inspection team found the use of artificial colour, reuse of oil, and ignorance of personal hygiene and directed the confectioneries to correct flaws.

Similarly, the team inspected Prashamsa Collection and Refine Processing Centre at Godawari municipality-11 and disposed 72 cans of spurious ghee. The people’s representatives at local level were also present on the occasion.

Two stores were visited at Madhyapur Thimi municipality-3 of Bhaktapur where the team found various inedible items. Unsafe storage and date-expired goods were also found by the monitoring team.

The concerned stores were directed to maintain price lists of goods and display visibly to the customers. The businesspersons were also asked to renew the documents of business registration.
