Bikal Shrestha, the jailor said that although the prison has the capacity to accommodate 175 prisoners, currently there are 565 jailbirds. According to him, the prison has the capacity to hold 25 women and 150 men, but three children under the age of five, 92 women and 470 men have been kept there presently. As the number of inmates increased, the prison administration said that there was also a problem in their management. Shrestha further shared that although the department has been informed about the transfer of the required number to other places, no action has been taken so far. “Since there is no place to keep the female prisoners in Rupandehi and Kapilvastu prisons, they have been sent here, this has caused further problem in the management”, he said.
