Nepal police chief joins regional summit on transnational crime in Thailand


Bangkok [Thailand], July 22 – Nepal’s Inspector General of Police, Dan Bahadur Karki participated in a regional summit in Thailand focused on strengthening cooperation against transnational organised crime, cyber fraud and cross-border criminal networks, police said on Wednesday.

The two-day summit, titled The Regional Summit on Scam Center Compounds and Transnational Organized Crime was held in Bangkok on July 20 and 21. It was organised by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Royal Thai Police.

According to Nepal Police’s Central Police News Desk, participants discussed the need for greater global cooperation, information sharing and effective international coordination to combat organised crime, cyber fraud and cross-border crime.

Karki returned to Nepal on Wednesday after attending the summit.

Separately, FBI Director Kash Patel met Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Tuesday and thanked Thailand for its efforts to combat online scam networks. Patel also pledged closer cooperation to tackle transnational crime including cybercrime, human trafficking and narcotics.

The meeting at Thailand’s Government House was attended by US Ambassador to Thailand Sean O’Neill and highlighted the longstanding partnership between the FBI and the Royal Thai Police.
