Finance minister urges diaspora investment to boost economic growth

Kathmandu [Nepal], July 26 – Nepal’s Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has urged the Nepali diaspora to invest in the country’s development saying overseas Nepalis can help drive economic growth and prosperity.

Speaking during a virtual interaction with young Nepali entrepreneurs in Australia on Saturday, Wagle encouraged them to embrace the government’s “Once a Nepali, always a Nepali” vision promoted by the government and the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

According to the minister’s secretariat, Wagle described Nepalis living abroad as goodwill ambassadors and called on them to support Nepal’s economic transformation through investment and cooperation.

He said the government has introduced tax and revenue reforms industry-friendly policies and investment instruments to encourage diaspora participation. These include Non-Resident Nepali (NRN) bonds, offshore bonds and alternative financing mechanisms aimed at making investment easier for overseas Nepalis.

“NRN bonds, offshore bonds and alternative finance mobilization are among the transformative initiatives introduced by the government with the Nepali diaspora in mind,” Wagle said.

The appeal comes as Nepal seeks to attract greater private investment and mobilize overseas capital to support economic growth.
