Kathmandu [Nepal], July 27 – Authorities in Nepal’s Sunsari district imposed an indefinite curfew in several areas from 7:00 am on Monday following a decision by the District Administration Office aimed at maintaining law and order.
The curfew has been enforced under Section 6(a) of the Local Administration Act, 2028 BS and will remain in effect until further notice.
According to the District Administration Office the restrictions cover multiple locations including Bhantabari Bazaar, Ghuski Bazaar, Kaptanganj Bazaar, Basti Bazaar and Dewanganj Bazaar. The affected areas are defined by specific local landmarks and administrative boundaries.
In a separate decision the Sunsari District Security Committee imposed a prohibitory order across the entire Harinagar and Dewanganj rural municipalities.
Under the order gatherings of more than five people are prohibited from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm on Monday. Officials said the measure was introduced to prevent any deterioration in the security situation.
The administration warned that anyone found violating the restrictions could face a fine of up to Rs 5,000 imprisonment of up to one month or both in accordance with the law.
Authorities have urged residents to comply with the orders and cooperate with security personnel until the restrictions are lifted.
