Kathmandu [Nepal], August 2 – Authorities in Nepal have partially relaxed the curfew imposed in the Golbazar Municipality area of Siraha district allowing limited public movement during daytime as the local security situation shows signs of improvement.
In a notice issued on Sunday, the Siraha District Administration Office said the curfew would remain suspended daily from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm until further notice. Restrictions will continue outside those hours.
The administration said the decision was taken after reviewing the prevailing security situation in the area. It added that authorities would continue assessing local conditions before deciding whether to further ease or completely lift the curfew.
Officials also announced that long-distance public transport passing through the Golbazar area would be allowed to operate with necessary facilitation to minimise disruption to travel.
Despite the daytime relaxation the administration has retained restrictions on public gatherings. More than five people will not be permitted to assemble at one location during the hours when the curfew is relaxed it said, urging residents to comply with security measures and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
The curfew was imposed following security concerns in the area. Authorities have not announced a timeline for its complete withdrawal saying future decisions will depend on developments on the ground and continued assessments of the law and order situation.
