Kathmandu [Nepal], August 12 – Nepal Police is preparing to establish an anti-cyber scam centre and integrated command centres across the country as authorities respond to a sharp rise in cybercrime driven by rapid digitalisation.
The proposed anti-cyber scam centre, to operate under the Cyber Bureau and will bring together representatives from Nepal Police, Nepal Rastra Bank, the Nepal Bankers’ Association, the Nepal Telecommunications Authority and internet service providers to strengthen coordination against online scams and financial fraud.
Police spokesperson Deputy Inspector General Abi Narayan Kafle said the initiative is a priority as cyber threats become increasingly sophisticated. The Cyber Bureau registered 20,526 cybercrime complaints in the 2025-26 fiscal year up from 19,730 a year earlier averaging about 56 complaints a day. Police filed 409 cybercrime cases in court during the period.
Authorities also plan to establish cyber desks in every district police office, expand digital forensic laboratories to provincial level and deploy specialised investigators to improve cybercrime response nationwide.
Beyond cybercrime Nepal Police is planning integrated command centres at federal, provincial and district levels to improve coordination during emergencies. The force also aims to introduce facial-recognition systems, blockchain-analysis tools, GPS-enabled patrol monitoring and expanded smart CCTV networks as part of a broader shift toward technology-driven policing.
