Kathmandu [Nepal], August 18 – Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth is scheduled to meet Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Tuesday during his three-day official visit to Nepal.
Seth arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday at the invitation of Nepal Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel. During the meeting, Seth is expected to hold discussions with Shah who also serves as Nepal’s Defence Minister.
The visit marks Seth’s first foreign trip since he was appointed Chief of the Indian Army. He is scheduled to return to India on Wednesday.
On Monday, President Ram Chandra Paudel conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army on Seth at a special ceremony. The honour is part of a longstanding tradition between Nepal and India under which the army chiefs of the two countries are awarded honorary general ranks by the other country.
Seth also held talks with General Sigdel at the Nepal Army headquarters, Jangi Adda, where the two sides discussed military matters and exchanged military and medical supplies.
The visit comes amid longstanding defence and security ties between Nepal and India. Seth’s meetings with senior Nepali officials are expected to further strengthen bilateral military cooperation and relations between the two neighbouring countries.
