Dirgha Rawal appointed Deputy Governor of Central bank

Kathmandu [Nepal], August 20 – Nepal’s government has appointed Nepal Rastra Bank Executive Director Dirgha Rawal as a deputy governor filling one of the two vacant positions at the central bank.

A Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday decided to appoint Rawal as deputy governor according to sources familiar with the decision.

Rawal currently heads the Supervision Department of Nepal Rastra Bank where he has been involved in overseeing the country’s banking and financial institutions. His appointment comes as the central bank continues to fill key leadership positions.

The government did not publicly disclose Rawal’s appointment while announcing the decisions of Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting.

The appointment fills the second vacant deputy governor position at Nepal Rastra Bank. The government had previously appointed Kiran Pandit as the other deputy governor.

Deputy governors play a key role in supporting the central bank governor in implementing monetary policy, supervising financial institutions and managing the country’s broader financial system.

Rawal’s appointment is expected to strengthen the senior leadership of Nepal Rastra Bank at a time when the central bank is dealing with challenges related to financial-sector stability, regulation and economic management.

The government is yet to formally provide details on the appointment beyond the Cabinet decision while an official announcement regarding Rawal’s new role is expected.
