PM cites health need to wear sunglasses

Kathmandu [Nepal], August 25 – Prime Minister Balendra Shah has submitted a medical report to the Federal Parliament Secretariat stating that he needs to wear sunglasses while attending parliamentary meetings due to a health condition.

Parliament Secretariat Joint Secretary and spokesperson Ekram Giri confirmed that the secretariat received a letter accompanied by the medical report regarding the prime minister’s need to wear sunglasses inside the House.

“A letter with a medical report stating that the Prime Minister is required to wear sunglasses has been received by the Parliament Secretariat,” Giri told Nepal Khabar on Tuesday morning.

The development follows remarks by Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee that lawmakers would no longer be allowed to wear sunglasses inside the House.

The Speaker had made the decision after repeated questions were raised over the practice of wearing sunglasses during parliamentary meetings.

Following the remarks Shah submitted his medical report to the Parliament Secretariat stating that his health condition requires him to wear sunglasses while attending parliamentary proceedings.
